This is a place where I don't feel alone

I was driving home, the air was frigid - stagnant and cold, lingering unaffected by the whirl of human motion and churning engines around it. The first days of winter are often like this, the sky darkens earlier so everyone feels like their days are longer. No one stops to appreciate anything, there's a race to get home and end the day.

I kept driving, as the sky began to close and the interstate began to open and there were songs so perfect for the moment and completely unplanned. I found myslelf singing along with the refrain to The Cinematic Orchestra's songs To Build a Home at the top of my lungs with the windows down and a freezing breeze blowing in my face - "Hold on as tightly as you held on to me, 'cause I built a home for you, and for me." Rarely have I appreciated such a routine moment of life as much as I did then. I should take pictures of these times more often, what lovely documents they are.

The cinematic orch. song was on some NBC show the other night when I was flipping channels. Totally surreal but it worked.

I totally feel you on this post. I was just saying the other day that Radiohead's "All I Need" is the perfect "drive alone on a cold night" song.

Check out Keane's "The Night Sky".

Ok Holy Crap, i had never listened to The Cinematic Orchestra before, actually never even heard of them and I was sitting here at my laptop listening to Patrick Watson and the download finished and i was like "sweet", so I played the Cinematic Orchestra song and i thought I'd made a mistake cause Patrick Watson was singing again!! I didn't know he had another band, he's freakin awesome! I'm getting this CD.
