Undertow Orchestra (Bazan, Johnson, Eitzel, Chesnutt) 2/28/06 Nashville, TN

The best show I saw in 2006 was The Undertow Orchestra at the Belcourt back in February. The Undertow Orchestra was a band of four songwriters rotating instruments to form a supergroup backing-band for each other while each played six songs of his own.
The band was formed from four very legendary indie songwriters: David Bazan (Pedro the Lion: drums and guitar), Will Johnson (Centro-Matic, South San Gabriel: drums and guitar), Mark Eitzel (American Music Club: acoustic guitar) and Vic Chesnutt (bass), with help from Scott Danbom (Centro-Matic: keys and violin). Everything about this evening was wonderful: The Belcourt is by far my favorite venue in Nashville, the sound was great, the guys were joking through the entire set and I was seven feet away from four of my favorite songwriters of all time. Ya know when you're sitting around with your friends thinking up your dream band? That's what this show was for me, so I figured some of you may enjoy it as much as I did.
